January is the time when everyone stops to think about the thing they want to improve most in their life over the course of the next year. A lot of people will search for self-improvement by signing up with a gym, signing up for classes or trying a new sport. With all these self-improvement goals shouldn’t your personal brand be one of them?

Everyone should have a personal brand whether you’re a job seeker, salesperson, business representative or even if you’re simply trying to get yourself out there on social media. Your personal brand is who you are, what you believe in and how you portray yourself socially. In many ways, our personality is our brand, and we don’t really think about it too much, we just are who we are. However, when we learn how to leverage our talents, traits, and accomplishments, we can elevate ourselves and the way we communicate both in person and online.

You’re probably asking yourself “how do I create my own personal brand?” You don’t have to take a marketing class or change who you are as a person to create a personal brand, you just have to know the best parts of yourself, and insert those positive attributes into your everyday life. Here are some questions to help get you started:

What are you good at?
What do you value most?
What kind of worker are you?
How do you want other people to see you?

Answering these questions will help you become more self-aware, which is important when creating your personal brand. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses will help you realize what to pursue and what to avoid.Your positive and negative attributes will lead you to a more comfortable environment, making you more confident and successful! This is especially true for people seeking fame online. Think about famous YouTubers and why are they famous. It’s because they showcase a unique talent or personality that is fun, relatable and plays to their strengths and knowledge!

Much like a business, your brand is what attracts people to you, employers, friends, love interests and clients all alike. When you put yourself in situations suitable to your strengths, more people will remember you positively, and that’s the ultimate goal of branding! So I challenge everyone who reads this article to work on their own personal brand this year and I invite you to share your stories and successes with me at Jessicaschwarz@knockmedia.com.
