With the buzz surrounding the release of Apples new iPad last week there is no question tablets are taking on bigger roles in our lives.  From the classroom to the boardroom, from the couch to the train you are seeing tablets, and iPads specifically, working their way into how we function.

Seeing as the device is so much different in size than anything else we have ever known, what’s most interesting is what firms like ours are doing with design and layout. Websites are now behaving more and more like apps, and rightfully so.  iPad app design has quickly become one of the more popular offerings here at KnockMedia.

Considering the nature of an end-user experience on a tablet (specifically “taps” versus “clicks”) it’s pretty easy to see that the interface you design for an iPad needs to be different from a standard website or a smartphone website.  Big buttons, seamless navigation, engaging graphics, that’s what makes an iPad app design special. Here are some samples of iPad apps we’ve designed:

The truth is that with a rapidly evolving medium like tablets, not even the manufacturers know exactly where they are headed. What size of screen will stick long term?  That remains to be seen.  What will remain is the need for exceptional user experiences, regardless of the screen size or resolution.
