Live video streaming is booming across all social media platforms. Whether for business or personal, live streaming can help get you noticed in all the right ways. Here are my tips for beginners!

First and foremost don’t be afraid! For people who are camera shy, live streaming can be a daunting idea. I get it, but people wouldn’t be watching if they weren’t interested right? Plus live stream isn’t exactly something that just happens, usually you prepare a topic to talk about or something to show people. Don’t go in unprepared- think ahead and plan it out. This way you can let people know when and where to watch you.

When planning your stream remember that the quality of your feed is dependent on your device and connection to the internet. You can live stream from a computer, laptop, tablet or phone. Newer devices will produce a better quality picture, but your connection plays an even bigger role in the quality of your stream.

When streaming from a desktop or laptop, you may want to switch to a wired ethernet connection to improve reliability and connection speed. Smartphone and tablet users should make sure they are close to their wireless router to minimize signal disruption. While your connection is important, it will never be faster than your actual internet speed. You can check how fast your internet is by using a site like speedtest.net.

While streaming, engage with your audience as much as possible. Ask your viewers questions, respond to their comments, make them feel like they are as much a part of the live stream as you are. The more you engage with your viewers, the more likely they are to come back to your next live session!

Finally, back all your sessions up on social media and allow your viewers who might have missed the stream a chance to watch it. We all lead busy lives, sometimes we miss things and that’s why video on demand was created! If your fans missed a live stream, having the option to go back and watch it is better than missing it completely. Backing up your videos is also a good way to attract new viewers since they can see your past live streams. It may entice them to be in the audience for your next live stream!
