I know this because modern technology allows me to view all the teams each of them picked! Modern technology such as twitter allows me to keep up to date on the progress of games when I am on the road. And here’s the best one- there’s a free app that allows me to get scores, updates and even watch games live from my phone! As technology and social media has changed everything else in life, it has also brought March Madness to a new level!
If you think about the phenomenon of March Madness and what it is today because of modern technology and social media as opposed to what it used to be, it’s hard not to get caught up in the craze. The games have started and I can watch 4 games at once – one on my TV, one on my phone, one on my laptop and one on my tablet while checking twitter updates from the March Madness accounts I follow. Years ago, this was not possible! Can you imagine watching one game at a time and that was only if you were near a TV. No checking scores on your iphone! Seems almost barbaric that we had to switch channels to find scores for other games. Now you can watch games on your phone, tablet or any other electronic device. Even the TV’s have advanced –allowing you to watch more than one game at a time on the same TV screen.
Did you know the ESPN cable network only began broadcasting early rounds of NCAA games in the early 1980’s? Before then, early rounds were not able to be viewed. Fast forward to 2015 when I can download a free app on my phone and get alerts, scores and watch games live with just the tap of my finger. How about next year – when we will all be watching the tournament from our watches!!
Let’s talk about apps for a minute. Who doesn’t love something free? I know I do, which is why I love apps. There are so many different free options to choose from for this tournament without having to pay a penny, my favorite being the March Madness Live app. By just downloading this app I can instantly get scores, watch live games and get stats on teams in the tournament. Do you feel like there’s an app for everything these days? There has been a substantial increase in app sales and development recently here at KM. Businesses are (correctly) feeling that without one, they are missing out and behind the times.
Years ago they started calling this tournament of games “March Madness” but truthfully, I think it is the development of technology and social media that now allows us to call it “madness”. I love the updates on my phone and the way our office brackets just automatically update, creating a little friendly competition in the office. And I love this March Madness App. Being able to access the games and scores anywhere, anytime gets everyone more involved. And really, what’s the harm in that? It’s good for us all to have a little fun.
